Kochi Metro gets clearance from Centre
Delhi 03-07-2012: The Centre has given clearance for the much awaited dream project of Kerala, the Kochi Metro. The Rs 5182 core project would be completed in 13 years, said CM. The project will have a 15 pc stake each by the Centre and the State. The Japan Investment Cooperation Agency (JICA) would also fund the project. But the project, with centre and state equity and also the JICA fund would be insufficient. The Urban Development ministry has sought the help of other financial institutions too. The 25.6 km Metro from Aluva to Thripunithura will have 26 stations. At the start the metro would have three coaches which would later be upgraded to six. Other developmental works related to Kochi Metro are fast progressing. The State Government had sanctioned Rs 168 crore in the last budget and Rs 119 crores inthis year’s budget respectively. The Central budget has also sanctioned 30 crores for the project.
